“Brief” Guide to JavaScript – Part 4 | Blog of...
Here we’re covering Arrays & Objects. I’m also testing out the some code display plugin for Live Writer. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than no color. Arrays Arrays are a typical programming paradigm. It allows us to store multiple values into one variable, usually the values are related in some way or another. Let’s say we want to store a list of our grades for a particular class: ...

Adobe shuts down for a week
Adobe Systems has shut its North American operations for the week as part of a cost-cutting effort that the company said it will repeat at least once more this year. The San Jose software company, which makes editing, graphic design and Web development tools, said the shutdowns are part of a larger effort to control costs in the face of a global recession. Adobe’s sales have declined...

iPhone OS 3.0 Adoption Rate - Tapbots Blog
The data seems pretty clear. Prior to June 8th we have a fairly low adoption rate of ~3%. Starting on June 9 this jumps up to 6-8%, which can be directly tracked to the developer release at WWDC. Starting on June 17th we get a huge jump as all the non devs start upgrading. We’re currently running at an overall 75% upgrade rate which is pretty insane considering the number of devices and the...

Nickel and diming Jason Jun 24 42 comments Latest by Happy Over the years I’ve seen a lot of proposals from professional services firms. Designers, architects, lawyers, consultants, and others. 8 secret scores that lenders keep - MSN Money
Credit-risk scores: These are the credit scores most of us know. The leading credit score, the FICO, was created by Fair Isaac and ranges from 300 to 850, with scores over 700 generally considered to be low risk. Response score: This score predicts the likelihood a consumer will respond to an offer of credit, such as a new card or a balance transfer offer. Credit card issuers use response...

Busting IE8’s Mythbusting | Geektechnica
Over the last 12 months or so I was starting to like Microsoft a bit because of their efforts in trying to connect to the users by opening up IE and Windows7 developers blog and taking inputs from everyone on what features and improvements they want to see on future versions. That takes some balls considering the fact that many people were furious with IE & Vista in general. They took a lot...

Microsoft, you make me sick! - James Padolsey
I’m not normally one to protest so distastefully but Microsoft’s last move has really pissed me off. Apparently, their new devil-child, IE8, beats Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome in areas such as “Reliability”, “Compatibility” and “Developer Tools”; at least, according to this chart (IMG)! Apparently IE8 considers itself more secure and easier to use than other browsers too! I can’t...

2. Eval = Bad For those unfamiliar, the “eval” function gives us access to JavaScript’s compiler. Essentially, we can execute a string’s result by passing it as a parameter of “eval”. Not only will this decrease your script’s performance substantially, but it also poses a huge security risk because it grants far too much power to the passed in...

Alcohol’s Good for You? Some Scientists Doubt It -...
For some scientists, the question will not go away. No study, these critics say, has ever proved a causal relationship between moderate drinking and lower risk of death — only that the two often go together. It may be that moderate drinking is just something healthy people tend to do, not something that makes people healthy. “The moderate drinkers tend to do everything right — they exercise,...

Daily Meh: Moments that people are in
Real happiness is uninhibited. Sitting around thinking about things is either a symptom or a cause of depression, and I don’t care which. This is really a dual problem: on the one hand, for us types who sit around thinking too much and doing too little, and whose brains haven’t understood that they’re supposed to concentrate on the doing and not the thinking when we are doing, the problem is how...
